RATNAPARK-OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Shocked!! is this how Ratnapark looks ??? i never thought it would be very Peaceful, green ...wow even ponds, fountains though dirty since last 7 years- It was the first time i ever entered in the premises... and i was very lucky because the first time i entered was the first time when KMC restricted the entrance of public. Being at the place was for a purpose, I along with my friend had to take permission for 22 April "EARTH DAY".......as we explained our planned event, we were appreciated by Mr. Hari Kc for a good cause which would help them as well.

The Slogan for EARTH DAY was GREEN CITIES this was the perfect place for us to create awareness being power shifters. All done with our arrangements and planned activities, we were all set to value our Ratnapark. The event was supposed to start from 7 a.m, i just could see few people around supporting us, i thought people would be more concerned about this event because it is the first ever cleaning done by any organization in the history as i have known... few minutes later i could see familiar faces which was increasing in number. When you make some effort and try to do the work as your responsibility, you get attached to it, that is what was happening to me....very happy to see so many participants more than that we could see young girls and their enthusiasm towards the cleaning campaign.

We divided the participants into 3 groups according to the area and amount of waste to be cleaned, most of them were included in the cleaning activity of the pond-most difficult part of our event as they had to clear the waste which was piled up from last 7 years, Few of them including me were cleaning the dust bins covered with mud and other waste and rest were clearing the plastics found on the garden area, i am very glad that i was even able to help the participants cleaning the waste inside the pond. whhhhhoh!! Continuous clearing of those waste from different area of the park for 2 hours almost made all of them tired. So, we headed towards shades and had some cookies and tea, at the same time i announced them about the idea collection flex(they were supposed to give their ideas inside the leaves which was drawn on the flex) – the purpose was to collect the ideas for a better Ratnapark . Well!!!! We were able to collect lot of ideas from the participants.

 After these activities we were back to our task. During the entire event we SPOKE LESS AND ACTED MORE! i definitely feel proud to say it. Around 10 a.m we almost came to end of the event, most of the participant left the place but few of our team members cleared all the waste from the pond at the end.

The entire objective of the event was to clean and contribute in maintenance of Ratnapark, to give an impression that Ratnapark can also be clean and green, and to collect ideas and sensitize about sustainability of Ratnapark . We are even moving towards the second phase of the event, as we could see young people participating in this cause; we are expecting more participation in our upcoming II event "Ratnapark-Our Responsibility ". People often make comments on the waste seen near roads, parks but when the time comes to act upon the situation, they step back WHY?????. Well! i am very proud of myself because i can say that i have always acted upon such situation rather than escaping the situation ...at least i try and i feel contented and can proudly say that Ratnapark- My responsibility !!!!!!!!!!
